I had to admit, throwing my power in Jaxonâs face was a trip. Having held me hostage in a jail cell with real manacles, he deserved it. And Iâd pretended like I loved the whole charade of this charm fest to sell my response. Sadly, the only difference between this party and my parties in Hell was that almost everyone was human, and that meant they gave off less sexual energy for me to devour. But it was enough. After some time in the backroom with some of the more attractive candidates, I was feeling like myself again.
Next on my list would be tracking down the other man present when I was summonedâ Cooperâand asking him about Zeke. There was a conflict there, and I was almost certain it had something to do with me being called to Earth. If he had any idea how I could get back to Hell, I had to try him. Most people here fell to my charms, so it was worth a shot.
My heart panged, thinking about Amma dealing with that service demon. The longer I stayed here, the more worked up sheâd get. She didnât deal with stress or new situations well. She went around and around things in her mind until she was half crazy with it. And Tarzi . . . I loved her, but sheâd just tell Amma to stop thinking about it. Like it was that easy.
The bell above the door rang, and I asked the man nearest me to pick me up, ignoring his hand on my butt as I peered to see if Jaxon had returned.
No, that was Cooper. His warm brown eyes jumped straight to me and stopped. He licked his lips and crossed his arms quickly, shaking himself out of it. Even at full power, he was still resistant to my charms. That quick reaction was his own. That connection that I felt thrumming between usâwhat was that? I tilted my head, trying to puzzle it out. If he had real attraction, could it be possible that he could develop real feelings? What would that be like? Not that I believed in love, at least for succubi, but affection between loversâwhat would that be like?
Smiling, I slunk through the crowd to his side. And there was Jaxon . . .
I snapped my fingers. âI need two guards please.â Had Jaxon called Cooper in to help him?
Two well-muscled men jostled to my side. One was a man Iâd fully enjoyed earlier, after telling him exactly how to please me when heâd looked confused. How was it that men here didnât know how to please their women?
Jaxon tilted his head, his eyes running over my every curve. Despite being sated, I shivered, warmth uncurling low in my belly. I gritted my teeth, trying to ignore it, but it persisted.
He turned his assessing gaze to the crowd and nodded. âYou really are persuasive.â
I blinked. That joyful sparkle in his eyes, the way he sidled closer to me . .
